FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most before a consultation.
It depends on dosage form. Powder sticks start at 1,000 units; tablets and capsules are typically 3,000–5,000.
After sample sign-off, production starts at a minimum of 6 weeks. End-to-end is typically 8–14 weeks including licensing and design.
Health functional foods must use ingredients approved by Korea's MFDS and pass pre-screening for labeling and ads. General foods are restricted from functional claims. We help you choose the right category at concept stage.
Costs vary by product — typically a few hundred to a few thousand USD across screening fees, lab tests, and certification bodies. We provide a detailed quote at consultation.
Once the concept is agreed, we produce and ship a prototype. We provide 1–2 free rounds; further revisions may incur a fee.
It's a Korean filing that lets a brand sell under its own name without manufacturing in-house. We're licensed for both health functional foods and meat products.
Partners are selected on HACCP-certified facilities, with GMP-certified plants for health-functional-food dosage forms. Certification info is based on partners' public certificates and competent-authority registrations, and certificate copies can be requested before contract.
As a licensed Health-Functional-Food Distributor, we review ad copy from the concept stage against Korea's Food Labeling & Advertising Act and Health Functional Food Act. High-risk phrases such as "immunity boost" or "weight-loss effect" are flagged early and reworked into compliant alternatives.
Yes. We match consortium manufacturers for each form in parallel, enabling small-batch, multi-SKU production.
We cover design, printing, and accessories end-to-end. If you have existing design files, we can also just review them.
We work with partners for labeling, certification, and customs in destination countries. We have experience with the US, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
Typically 50% deposit and 50% on completion. We can adjust based on order size.
OEM: brand owns formula, factory produces. ODM: manufacturer proposes the formula. OBM: brand launch and distribution are handled end-to-end. BDL supports all three.
Unit price = raw materials + packaging (bottle/label/box) + manufacturing/filling labor + regulatory & screening fees + logistics. MOQ and ingredient grade drive 30–50% variance.
Distribution-Only lets you sell and distribute under your own brand; Consignment resells another brand's goods. BDL is a licensed Distribution-Only entity for both HFF and meat products and can register the brand owner as the official seller.
MOQ is driven by the minimum batch of each production line, ingredient minimum order (raw MOQ), and the print run on packaging. Capsules/softgels/RTD lines need higher setup, so 5,000+ is recommended.
Standard: samples 2–3 wks · pre-screening 2–4 wks · raw/packaging procurement 3–5 wks · manufacturing/filling 2–4 wks. Capsules/softgels add 1–2 wks for stability testing.
End-to-end: product manufacturing filing, imported-food seller license (if applicable), pre-screening for HFF/general-food ads, self-declared labeling review, and shelf-life testing coordination.
HFF, special-nutrition foods, and pill-form general foods (strengthened in 2026) require pre-screening. AI-generated visuals, celebrity endorsements, and before/after imagery need separate substantiation.
Yes. Together with partner CROs we prepare safety and efficacy dossiers, submit to MFDS, and respond to review comments. Approval typically takes 12–18 months.
Requirements differ by destination — ingredient list, allergens, nutrition panel, language, font size, country of origin. We pre-check US (FDA Nutrition Facts), Japan (Shokuhin Hyoji Ho), EU 1169/2011, and Middle East HALAL rules.
Through partner consultancies we handle HALAL (KMF/JAKIM), FDA (Facility Registration & FSVP), JAS Organic, NSF, and Informed-Sport. Timelines are 6–12 months depending on type.
We compare 3–5 suppliers on price, lead time, and MOQ against the MFDS-approved ingredient DB, individually-approved registrations, and patent landscape to recommend the best mix.
Each production lot ships with a COA; expiry and recall procedures are standardized. Manufacturing defects are re-produced/recalled at the factory's cost; brand-directed changes are billed to the brand.
Standard term is 1 year with auto-renewal. Under OEM, brand-supplied formula IP stays with the brand; under ODM, factory-developed formulas are negotiated as joint/license. Trademarks remain with the brand.
Mutual NDAs are signed before the first consultation. Formulas, COGS, and brand strategy stay within the project team. AI formula-tool logs belong to your brand account and are never reused as training data.
· Unverified (amber): nutrition values are AI estimates that have not passed a deterministic calculator. Final values come from an accredited lab report. · Source verification needed (gray): shown automatically when a citation contains a notice/approval number or when the link domain is outside our allowlist (MFDS, Foodsafetykorea, data.go.kr, law.go.kr, EFSA, FDA, Japan CAA); such links are hidden. · Both badges are applied by system rules, not manually, and are cleared after PM review and lab certificates.
Public documents registered by our admin are viewable directly in the 'Manufacturer verification & evidence' block of the formulation result. Each partner shows Verified / In progress / Unverified, and the public badge and wording update automatically when documents are added or verification is completed. Confidential originals are shared under NDA during consultation.
